As we step into the month of August, I’m making a declaration: this will be a month full of affirmation—for the people near to me and dear to me. Not just in thought, but in words, in presence, and in action.
Let me be clear—this isn’t just about being nice. This is spiritual. And real talk? As soon as you make a declaration like this, expect it to be tested. Probably by the time you finish reading this post, something (or someone) may challenge your resolve to walk in encouragement. But don’t be discouraged—just be ready.
You’d think, being followers of Christ, that offering affirmation would be second nature. But let’s be honest—it’s often easier to criticize, correct, or simply stay silent than to intentionally speak life. The Bible doesn’t shy away from that reality. It tells us plainly: we were born into sin and shaped in iniquity (Psalm 51:5). So yes, encouragement doesn’t always come naturally. But thank God we don’t have to do it in our own strength.
Scripture also tells us that "if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Corinthians 5:17). That word “in” means more than just believing—it's about relationship. Being in His word. In worship. In awe and reverence of who He is.
When we live from that place, He transforms how we view the world—and the people in it. Especially those closest to us. The ones we do life with daily, weekly, monthly. Affirmation becomes more than a kind gesture; it becomes a spiritual discipline. A choice to speak life. A way to reflect Christ.
So here’s your challenge for today—and for the rest of this month:What was the first thing you said today to affirm someone? If you haven’t yet, don’t worry—it’s not too late. Add it to your to-do list. Make it a habit. Put it on repeat.
Let August be a month where your words build, bless, and breathe life.
Signed,
Yolonda
